The year 2010

The year 2010 in The Bia造stok Puppet Theatre saw six premieres (three for children and three for adult audiences), sixteen trips abroad and sixteen trips to various national festivals and guest appearances. The year was marked by three major theatre projects:

  • "Teatr Polska" - a joint campaign together with Theatrical Institute in Warsaw consisting of presentation of the most interesting shows to audiences whose access to the centres of theatrical Poland is limited;
  • "Polish-Norwegian Puppets 2010" - a project with the Kattas Figurteater Ensemble from Norway under the "norway grants";
  • "Chopin 2010" - production of a concert-puppet show and its presentation in 6 countries around the world to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Fryderyk Chopin's birth.

Our aims are to continue wide international cooperation, to propose a diverse theatre, open to different styles and conventions, to reach deep into our tradition of puppetry, but at the same time, not to give up experiments and innovation. Sometimes we succeed, sometimes we do not. This is, however, the very essence of making art. The last thing we want is to stop developing and cash in on our past achievements.

Our theatrical activity is complemented by a wide non-theatrical offer: exhibition (BTL Gallery), educational (drama and art workshops), dramatic (monthly readings of puppet plays for children), and publishing. We hope the offer can be expanded even further. And this is what the year 2010 was about.
