The year 2011

We have had twelve busy months behind. In 2011 the Bialystok Puppet Theatre (BTL) prepared eight premieres: five for children including one for the youngest and three for the adult audience. Our fourteen performances from the last seasons were presented during numerous guest trips and festivals in Poland and abroad. We went abroad eleven times, eleven times we performed in different Polish cities including important festivals in Opole, Torun, Łomża and Little Warsaw Theatre Meetings. Apart from performances in the BTL, we performed over 50 shows. We had to resign from many invitations so as not to neglect our own audience, in front of it we have performed 411 times during the last year.

We participated in two important Polish projects :

  • once again ‘Theatre Poland’ – a joint action with the Raszewski Theatre Institute in Warsaw aiming at presentation of the most interesting performances to an audience living further from theatre centers in Poland;
  • in the programme „Polish Presidency 2011” – which was the presentation of the most interesting Polish cultural events in selected world capitals. Within this project in four European capitals we performed our six shows, prepared for this occasion the multimedia exhibition: „BTL: one theatre – many faces” and we held a discussion forum with the audience from Moscow, Minsk, Madrid and Kiev.

We continue a wide international cooperation, we offer a versatile theatre, open to different styles and conventions, we try to take advantage of our puppetry traditions but we do not resign from search and experiments. We sometimes obtain awards sometimes critical opinions. However, this is the meaning of cultivating art. We do not want to stand still and cut coupons from our achievements.

We supplement our theatre activity with a wide range of accompanying offers: exhibitions (within BTL Gallery – ten new exhibitions), education (theatre classes and art workshops), drama (monthly reading of puppet plays for children) and publishing. And we constantly want to develop our offer. This is the balance of the last year 2011.
