W „Rare Species” (Rzadkie Gatunki) punktem wyjścia jest jedno z ulubionych miejsc science fiction: laboratorium. Na scenie troje ludzi – jedna kobieta i dwóch mężczyzn – na przemian wykonują zadania naukowców oraz animatorów istot poddawanych obserwacji i eksperymentom. ABSURD – Advanced Biologies Special Unit – Research and Development (Specjalna Jednostka Zaawansowanych Biotechnologii – Badania i Rozwój) – to nazwa organizacji, dla której pracują. Obiecujący akronim; w tym laboratorium można spotkać naprawdę wyjątkowe stworzenia.
Ale ostatecznie – kto kogo obserwuje na tej scenie-laboratorium?
„Rare Species” inspirowane jest twórczością Stanisława Lema. Z czasem spektakl się usamodzielnił i podążył własną drogą, która odzwierciedla współczesne niepokoje ludzkości. Z niezwykłego uniwersum tego autora zachowano poczucie egzystencjalnego absurdu, zdolnego dotknąć bez wyjątku ludzi, cyborgi i inne gatunki.
W tym międzynarodowym projekcie teatrów z Polski i Portugalii językiem roboczym jest angielski (w spektaklu z polskimi napisami). Nawet w tak ściśle kontrolowanych środowiskach jak laboratoria zawsze (na szczęście) pozostaje coś, co wymyka się kontroli i ginie (a zarazem zyskuje) w przekładzie. Stało się to pretekstem do stworzenia określonych sekwencji przedstawienia oraz uznania teatru jako przestrzeni eksperymentu i pragnienia ponownego połączenia z naszym gatunkiem. Rzadkim gatunkiem.
In Rare Species, we start from one of science fiction's favorite places: the laboratory. On stage, three humans, one woman and two men, take turns performing the tasks of scientists and manipulators of the creatures that are under observation and being subjected to experiments. ABSUR-- Advanced Biologies Special Unit - Research and Development is the name of the organization they work for. A promising acronym, in this laboratory it will be possible to find some very special creatures.
But ultimately, who is observing whom on this stage-laboratory?
Espécies Raras was initially inspired by the work of Stanislaw Lem. The creation became autonomous and followed its own path, which, in some ways, also reflects humanity's current concerns. From this author's extraordinary universe, we have retained a sense of existential absurdity capable of indiscriminately affecting humans, cyborgs, and other species. Added to this ontological unease, which often manifests itself in a unsettling humor, are the (often clumsy) attempts to understand and modify the cosmos, as a whole and in its infinitesimal parts, through science and technology.
In this international partnership between Poland and Portugal, English (with Polish subtitles in the show) is the working language. Even in highly controlled environments such as laboratories, there is (fortunately) always something that escapes and is lost (and gained) in translation. This was the pretext for the creation of some sequences in the play and the reaffirmation of theater as a place of experimentation and desire to reconnect with our species. A rare species.
Em Espécies Raras partimos de um dos lugares favoritos da ficção científica: o laboratório. Em cena três humanos, uma mulher e dois homens, vão desempenhando por turnos, as tarefas de cientistas e de manipuladores das criaturas que estão em observação e a ser sujeitas a experiências. ABSUR- RD - Advanced Biologies Special Unit - Research and Development é o nome da organização para qual trabalham. Um acrónimo promissor, neste laboratório será possível encontrar algumas criaturas muito especiais.
Mas afinal, quem observa quem neste palco-laboratório?
Espécies Raras tem uma inspiração inicial na obra de Stanislaw Lem. A criação autonomizou-se e seguiu caminhos próprios e que, de algum modo, reflectem também preocupações actuais da humanidade. Do extraordinário universo deste autor conservámos um sentido de absurdo existencial capaz de afetar indiscriminadamente humanos, cyborgs e outras espécies. A esta inquietação ontológica, que frequentemente se manifesta num humor desconcertante, somam-se as tentativas (frequentemente desastradas) de compreender e de modificar o cosmos, no todo e nas partes infinitesimais, através da ciência e da técnica.
Nesta parceria internacional entre a Polónia e Portugal, o inglês (com legendas em polaco no espectáculo) é a língua de trabalho. Há, mesmo em ambientes muito controlados como os laboratórios, (felizmente) sempre qualquer coisa que escapa e que se perde (e que se ganha) na tradução. Este foi o pretexto para a criação de algumas sequências na peça e a reafirmação do teatro como lugar de experimentação e de desejo de nos reencontrarmos com a nossa espécie. Espécie rara.
